What's in Kitly Calm?

Four ingredients, in a flavorless oil base:

— Melatonin (1 mg per full dropper) — the same hormone your cat
  already produces to fall asleep, supplemented to help her unwind
  on a regular cycle in an indoor environment that disrupts natural
  light–dark rhythm.

— Ashwagandha extract (KSM-66, standardized) — an adaptogen with
  growing veterinary research support for reducing cortisol and
  buffering chronic stress response.

— L-theanine (Suntheanine-branded) — the amino acid in green tea
  that produces "alert calm." The most clinically studied calming
  ingredient in the feline supplement category.

— Valerian root extract (calibrated dose) — yes, valerian. We
  address it in detail below because it's the most-asked-about

Why drops instead of chews?

Because chews fail.

If you're reading this, your cat has probably already refused at
least one calming chew. The flavor changed, or the texture changed,
or she just decided one day she was done. Drops dose precisely, mix
into wet or dry food, and never trigger the "this isn't a treat,
this is medicine" reaction that chews provoke in suspicious cats.

Why valerian? I read it can make cats hyperactive.

This is the right question to ask, and we want to answer it carefully.

Valerian root contains compounds (valepotriates and valerenic acid)
that act on GABA receptors — the same receptors targeted by
prescription anti-anxiety medications. In humans and most mammals,
this produces a calming effect.

In cats specifically, valerian has a dose-dependent response. At
high, uncalibrated doses — like the amount in a fresh valerian root
plant or a strong tincture — many cats respond similarly to how they
respond to catnip: brief excitement, rolling, vocalization.

At the calibrated low dose used in Kitly Calm, the effect is the
opposite: a gentle reduction in nervous-system arousal that complements
the other three ingredients. Recent veterinary literature continues to
support valerian's use as a calming agent in cats at appropriate doses,
which is why we kept it in the formula despite knowing it would raise
questions.

Is ashwagandha safe for cats?

Yes, at the dose we use. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has been
used in human and veterinary contexts for decades. The dose in Kitly
Calm is calibrated to cat body weight and is well below any level
associated with adverse effects in published feline literature.

If your cat is pregnant, lactating, or has a diagnosed thyroid
condition, please check with your veterinarian before starting
Kitly Calm.

Is melatonin safe daily for a cat?

Yes. Daily melatonin in cats is well-tolerated and is in fact
commonly recommended by veterinarians for sleep cycle support in
senior cats and indoor cats with disrupted light exposure. The 1mg
dose in Kitly Calm is within the standard veterinary range.

How does this compare to Composure, Zylkene, or Zesty Paws?

Each of those products targets one or two mechanisms.

Composure leans on L-theanine plus a colostrum-derived peptide.
Zylkene uses a single ingredient (alpha-casozepine) in a capsule
format. Zesty Paws uses a similar-looking ingredient list to Kitly
Calm but in a bacon-flavored chew that many cats refuse.

Kitly Calm uses four ingredients that work on different pathways —
melatonin on circadian rhythm, ashwagandha on chronic cortisol,
L-theanine on neurotransmitter modulation, valerian on GABA. In a
dropper format, dosed in food, that doesn't depend on your cat
agreeing to eat a chew.

How do I give it to my cat?

Two drops, mixed into her wet food, twice a day. Morning and evening.

If she eats dry food only, two drops into a teaspoon of broth or
unsalted tuna water, mixed in. The oil base is mild and most cats
don't notice it. If yours is the rare picky exception, the 90-Day

Will my cat smell it?

The oil base is nearly odorless to humans. Most cats don't react to
the scent at all. If your cat has refused Zylkene capsules or Bach
Rescue Remedy in the past, Kitly Calm dissolves differently — into
oil-soluble food rather than sitting on top of it — and our test
group of cats accepted it at a meaningfully higher rate than
either of those alternatives.

How long does one bottle last?

One bottle is a 30-day supply at the standard dose (2 drops, twice
a day) for a single cat of average size (8–12 lbs).

If you have a kitten or a small senior cat, one bottle lasts longer.
If you have a large cat or two cats sharing one bottle, you'll go
through it faster — see "What if I have more than one cat?" below.

What if I have more than one cat?

The same dose works per cat. Most multi-cat households go through
one bottle per cat per month. A multi-cat bundle is in development;
in the meantime, subscribing to two or three bottles a month is the
easiest path.

When will I see results?

Most cats show subtle changes in the first 5–10 days — usually deeper
sleep, less restless vocalization at night, or a slight reduction in
over-grooming.

Full effect builds over 3–4 weeks. The mechanism isn't sedation —
it's a gradual reduction in the chronic-stress baseline. The cat
doesn't get "calmer" the way a sedative would make her calmer. She
gets *more herself*, slowly, as the constant low-grade alarm signal
in her nervous system quiets down.

What if my cat doesn't like the taste?

Most don't notice it. If she refuses food with the drops
in it after 3–4 tries, here are the workarounds, in order:

1. Reduce to one drop instead of two for a week, then increase
   back up.
2. Mix into a stronger-smelling food (tuna, salmon, sardine).
3. Mix into broth (Vital Essentials or low-sodium chicken broth)
   served alongside her food.

My cat is on gabapentin / fluoxetine / clomipramine. Can I add Kitly Calm?

Kitly Calm's ingredients are not known to have dangerous interactions
with common feline psychiatric medications, but every cat is different,
and we're not your vet. We're happy to send the full ingredient panel
and dosing information to your vet directly — email us and we'll
forward it.

My cat has kidney or liver disease. Is this safe?

We don't have feline-specific clinical data on Kitly Calm in cats
with diagnosed organ disease, and we won't pretend we do. We will
send your vet our full ingredient panel and sourcing documentation;
your vet is the right person to make this call.

Is it safe for senior cats?

Yes. In fact, senior cats are one of the most common use cases for
Kitly Calm — particularly for nighttime vocalization, sleep cycle
disruption, and the general nervous-system fragility that comes
with age. Many of our customers started using it for senior cats
specifically.

Is it safe for kittens?

For kittens under 6 months, we recommend waiting. A kitten's nervous
system is still developing, and most of the chronic stress patterns
Kitly Calm targets don't appear until later. If you have a kitten
in acute distress, your vet is the right call.

For kittens 6+ months, the standard dose is safe but most kittens
don't need it. If you're using it for a young cat introduced to a
multi-cat household, start with one drop twice a day instead of two.

Is it safe for pregnant or nursing cats?

We do not recommend Kitly Calm for pregnant or nursing cats. Please
consult your veterinarian for calming support during pregnancy.
